Focus Area Water

Water is the earth´s most important natural resource. Population growth and demographic shifts, urbanization, non-point and point source pollution, and impacts of climate change represent significant challenges for the preservation and functioning of water related systems.

Building upon the disciplinary strengths and demonstrated excellence at TUM a coordinated research focus has been launched that focuses on pressing issues related to the water – energy – food nexus. Within the Focus Area Water, nine project teams examine the impacts of climatic extremes such as drought, forest die-back, soil water holding capacity and monitoring strategies to detect harmful cyanobacteria remotely.
